At this point in the semester, AEPI Alpha has achieved many of our semester goals:
For Philanthropy, Paul-Matthew Zamsky and Jordan Fine have created a March Madness Bracket to raise money for the Jewish National Fund. Additionally, in wake of the Japanese Tsunami Relief, AEPI has been selling wristbands in front of the Weinstein Dormitory for the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. One distinguished Alumni graciously donated $500 in addition to the $1,000+ already raised through street sales.
Another important philanthropic event taking place this semester is Relay for Life, which raises money to fund research for the cure of cancer. Donations and signups are integral for this event. Please take a moment to donate or simply get involved now: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=team&fr_id=29256&team_id=840391
You can also help the American Cancer Society by attending a night of games at Fat Cat’s Billiard Club on April 5th: http://www.fatcatmusic.org/
This past Tuesday, March 23rd, AEPI Alpha gladly took part in a charitable Simulcast with our Brothers from IDC-Hertzliya.
As for Social Life at NYU, AEPI has taken an integral role in enriching the lives of fellow students in addition to showing our support for the Jewish community. AEPI provided security, crowd control, and event coordination for the 2nd Annual Iranian Jewish Club Fashion Show. In addition, AEPI teamed up with Chabad to co-sponser the Post Purim Party at Soiree.
As a pillar of Jewish Life at NYU, AEPI has maintained close ties with Chabad on Campus and Hillel. We will be having our annual Shabbat Lunch with Rabbi Korn on April 9th.
Tonight, March 25th, AEPI has reserved 6 tables at Shabbat for 2000 at NYU. AEPI always shows a strong presence at any Jewish event at NYU.
Otherwise, AEPI this semester has remained the premiere Jewish Fraternity on campus. We look forwarding to absorbing our pledges in the near future

First, a brief update on the chapter: We have 17 new pledges who are on track for success and are being molded by Pledgemaster Albert Schmool.
Second, the Alpha Chapter sent over 15 delegates to the Northeastern Conclave in Boston in February. Brothers attended events and bonded with other brothers from other chapters, and Brother Jordan Fine won the award for best individual delegate.
Finally, the chapter is holding a March Madness Bracket Pool to raise money for the Jewish National Fund. You can enter the pool here: http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/t1/group/12946, and you can make donations on our home page at http://www.aepialpha.org. More information about the event can be found here.

We would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. As we look forward to the second half of our year, please enjoy a recap of the final half of our first semester:
- Our chapter raised $5400 for Save a Child’s Heart during our two day rocking chair marathon. Brothers and select members of the NYU community coordinated to sit in a rocking chair for 48 straight hours from November 7th-9th. Our brotherhood maintained a impressive presence during the event, which was covered by the Washington Square News and NYU Local.
- We initiated our most recent pledge class and now have 20 new brothers. Congratulations to them!
- These new brothers have taken a very active role in the fraternity – Daniel Timianko (’14) has been elected as our new Scribe, and Paul-Matthew Zamsky (’14) as our new Sentinel. Other new brothers have volunteered for a plethora of positions. We can tell that this pledge class will be a huge asset to our fraternity in the long run.
- Additionally, our most recent elections resulted as follows: Jordan Fine (’13) was elected as Lieutenant Master, Aaron Feinblatt (’13) as Member at Large, and Albert Schmool (’12) as Pledgemaster. We thank our outgoing executive board members for their hard work in the last semester.
- Finally, it is always with regret that have to note the departure of our graduating seniors: Joshua Dalhben (Mu Alpha – Fall ’07), Yoni Gamliel (Beta Phi – Spring ’08), and Matthew Straus (Beta Phi – Spring ’08). We congratulate them and wish them the best of luck in their endeavors, but feel confident in that we will hear great things from them soon.
Be on the lookout for more information regarding the upcoming semester, and be sure to check out our calendar for a listing of events.
Sincerely,
Alpha

Hello AEPi Alpha Network!
We are in the midst of a wonderful semester and are making great steps towards the future of our chapter with each day that passes. Our pledge process is going strong, and our pledges have the makings of incredible brothers.
In other news, the chapter won third place at the annual Greek Night (Week) competitions. We took first place in Quiz Bowl, and our athletic teams (predominately filled with freshmen and sophomores) held their own quite well against much older competition. We feel confident that we will win Greek Night next year.
Please look for our annual Founder’s Day Event which will be held on Saturday, November 6th, of this year. More information will be given on this shortly.
Finally, our chapter has taken an idea from another AEPi chapter and are trying to create what could become a national event (much like A Walk to Remember has). Our goal is to, as a fraternity, sit in a rocking chair for 48 straight hours. Brothers will rotate turns in the chair, and each brother is responsible for raising $1 per minute they sit (minimum 30 minutes). We will raise a minimum of $2880 for Save a Child’s Heart (with a goal of $5000), an organization dedicated to providing pediatric care for underprivileged children in developing countries. The event will be held starting at 6:00 pm on Sunday, November 7th, and will end at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, November 9th. We have invited many members of the NYU Jewish community to participate and hopefully have created an initiative which will last for years to come.
Be on the lookout for more Alpha Chapter news!
Best,
Alpha

Alpha Chapter had an incredibly successful rush this year! We thank all of our alumni who attended our “Vermonsters” event at the Bronfman Center during rush, as well as the alumni who have been so kind as to maintain an active presence in the community. We all benefit from your involvement.
Our chapter has inducted 22 amazing pledges for our Fall 2010 semester. Our Pledgemaster, Michael Scolnic (’10) is more than up to the challenge of molding these young gentlemen into the Brothers of the future, who will be fortunate enough to be upcoming seniors during the 100th anniversary of our glorious fraternity.
As always, our chapter and brothers are incredibly busy, and we are currently preparing to dominate NYU’s Greek Night with a mixture of cleverness, talent, and pure athleticism. Look out for some of our events in the future, either on our website or listserv (click here to sign up for the alumni listserv).
On one final note, thanks to Matthew Lipton we have some wonderful photos of our 90th Anniversary Celebration, which you can find located here.
Best,
Alpha

It is amazing to see what our brothers are able to accomplish. This is without a doubt a start to a great and successful career for Eric Platt (Stern, 2011), who is already an outstanding student, friend, and brother. Already the chief editor of New York University’s newspaper, he has now added another milestone to his flourishing career. Please join us in congratulating Eric Platt on his recent publication in the Sunday’s edition of the New York Times.
From everyone at the Alpha Chapter…CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Five Brothers were inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Society, a business honor society, last month. ΒΓΣ members display extraordinary intelligence, and must rank in the top 7% of their class to be inducted as a junior, or the top 10% of their class to be inducted as a senior. The five Alpha Brothers (Roman Schwartz ['10], David Sokolow ['10], Rob Aeder ]’11], Vitali Bourchtein ['11], and Zachary Gitomer ['11]) add to an impressive list of past brothers who have also received the honors.
We are incredibly proud of our Brothers and are glad that they have received the honors they deserve. Their academic prowess acts as an influence on us all. Congratulations, and keep up the good work!

To some, this may just be a list of names. However, these men are Masters, Lieutenant Masters, Scribes, Exchequers, Pledgemasters, Members at Large, Sentinels, and Rush Chairs. They are friends, peers, leaders, and our Brothers. To say that this group of seniors is special would be an understatement. The graduating class of 2010 has been one of the most influential groups of people in the recent history of the Alpha Chapter. They took the reins of a newly re-founded chapter and have established a powerhouse which dominates the NYU spotlight and will continue to do so in the future. Read the rest of this entry »
